Technion Seed invests in DigiFlex nearly $1M

Battery Ventures, Vertex and ProSeed all directly invest in the company; DigiFlex is active in the field of Advanced Digital Printing Technologies.

DigiFlex, which specializes in advanced digital printing technologies, has received a seed investment of nearly $1M from three VC funds: Battery Ventures, Vertex and ProSeed (all co-owners of Technion Seed) in the framework of their seed-investment program. Ken Levi - the founder and for many years CEO and Chirman of KLA-Tencor – has also joined the round. Following this investment, the company has completed recruiting a top-quality team, and is now at the developing stages of its innovative technology, aiming to prove its applicability through building a prototype system. The company operates from Technion Seed's offices, located at MATAM High-Tech Park at the southern entrance to Haifa.

DigiFlex operates in a field that is in the forefront of advanced printing technologies. The company specializes in developing a unique type of ink, which enables the use of ink-jet technology in different industrial procedures. The first product to be developed by the company is a system used for the production of flexographic printing plates/molds (the most common method in the world for printing on stickers, labels, corrugated cardboards and flexible packaging). The system is designed to replace today's current methods – mold formation using negative film or laser beam-based systems, which are extremely expensive.

"DigiFlex operates in a fascinating field, where extremely advanced technologies meet the traditional printing industry. The solution DigiFlex offers, constitutes a breakthrough in this field ", says Technion Seed CEO Moshe Katzenelson. Katzenelson also emphasizes that the collaboration between DigiFlex and worldwide leading Venture Capital funds in conjunction with Technion Seed's close guidance, constitutes a perfect format for young companies at seed-stages. "In addition, a seed investment of nearly a $1M is an exception in the seed investment world. We believe that companies must be provided with all the funding they need in order to prove their idea's applicability", emphasizes Katzenelson.

Emanuel Timor, a Partner in Vertex VC fund, stresses that DigiFlex appeals to an enormous market, with a massive revenue potential. "The company's solution actually leads the digital printing to new fields. We believe that the team of experienced entrepreneurs, aided by Technion Seed's professional support, will lead the company to great success".

The company was established by Uri Adler and Dr. Moshe Frenkel, both experienced entrepreneurs in the digital printing field. They are considered worldwide experts, and hold dozens of patents in this particular field. Uri Adler is one of the founders of Idanit Technologies (which had been purchased by Scitex, became Scitex Vision, and was later acquired by HP), as well as one of the founders of Apiron Digital (which went through a similar course).

About Technion Seed

Technion Seed is a seed-stage investment firm, owned jointly by four top-tier Venture Capital funds – Vertex Venture Capital, Battery Ventures (US-based), SCP-Vitalife and ProSeed – and the Technion Research & Development Foundation. Through Technion Seed, these funds invest in high market potential technological ideas and ventures, that are still at an early stage and with very high uncertainty. The investment in such ventures – initially up to about $1,000,000 – is made both directly by the funds and indirectly through Technion Seed. The purpose of the initial investment is to enable the entrepreneurs to prove the viability of their idea. Success in the initial phase will then lead to a large round of financing by the funds, for continued growth of the venture. Technion Seed and its owners invest in a wide variety of areas, including communications, IT, internet, medical devices, renewable energy, new materials and more.
